Considered by many to be the finest audio transport in the world, this is ESOTERIC'S flagship SACD/CD transport, equipped with ESOTERIC's most advanced VRDS-NEO mechanism. Rigidity and vibration-resistant ability has been improved by the use of a half inch-thick, solid shaved-aluminum mechanism base plate. The motor of the tray open/close mechanism is the same type as that used for the pick-up motor, a three-phase brush-less speed-controlled neodymium motor. The smooth, elegant opening and closing motion is reflective of the superb quality of this reference grade transport.

Model P01VU adds optional and incremental upgrades based on evolving technology that includes a change from 6N copper (99.9999% signal purity), to 8N copper (99.999999 signal purity). 8N copper is used as a replacement for all critical internal wiring. [Please note that the D01 system has been rated "World's Best" long before any upgrade path was developed]. The use of 8N copper is extremely rare and contains less than .01 ppm (parts per million) of metallic impurities. This provides incremental improvement of resolution, soundstage, depth and texture. Specially selected capacitors and resistors are used with the internal wiring update to optimize acoustic transparency and signal refinement. Current owners of the D-01 may have their units optionally and incrementally upgraded to VU status (Chargeable). To insure Esoteric factory expertise, this upgrade can only be done in Japan.

Advanced technology combines the highly acclaimed Esoteric "Flagship" series design concepts of the P-01/D-01 system, and applies new DSD signal processing at a more affordable price point. As a result, the P-03/D-03 combination meets all the challenges of capturing spoken or musical potential of CD and SACD software.

P-03 Universal
Model P-03 Universal is a SACD/CD/DVD audio/DVD video disc transport. The "P03UNI" provides 14 bit processing and HD video resolution up to 720p/1080i/1080p (from conventional DVD's).
Recently reviewed as having video consistent with "Reference quality," the P-03UNI is the high end of ESOTERIC'S video playback devices. Highly acclaimed VRDS-NEO mechanism (Newly developed vibration free, rigid disc clamping system), AC power drive components, chassis construction, and cosmetics .....the P-03UNI shares most of its basic design features with the P-03. The new P-03UNI integrates proven, high quality video processing technology with enhancements by ESOTERIC, providing high definition (HD), video resolution from your existing DVD collection. Unlike other players using 10 bit or 12 bit video processing, the P-03UNI is equipped with the latest 14 bit / 216 MHz video D / A converter from Analog Devices, and the newest video scaling chipset from Anchor Bay Technologies plus ESOTERIC's custom video output stage. This provides for DVD video up-conversion capability as high as 1080p (progressive scan).
